Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Why do Filipinos like to eat food that smells bad?),it will help you,my kids.
Answer:
I agree that it smells (although I won't go as far as saying that it smells bad). I have to turn on the vent in the kitchen and have a vent fan on the window when i cook because i don't like the cooking smells to linger.
But I do enjoy the food no matter how strong it smells because like somebody mentioned, they are the food smells i grew up with. So the smells are a matter of perception.
For the most part, when I have visitors who do not specifically ask for filipino food, I cook regular italian and american dishes of which smells don't stick to the walls quite as much.
Why do you care?
Its all the fish
Because it doesn't smell bad to them.
Filipines are good people
im sorry we dont offer you food that smell like burgers and pizzas. at least we eat healthy if you wanna insult what we eat.
when you grow up eating it, it doesn't smell bad. i can guarantee you that what you call food that smells bad smells appetizing, if not delicious, to them. only a fool judges the entire world by their own personal standards.
It's a cultural thing. Other people think it is weird that Americans eat cheese (rotten milk).
not all of the filipino food stinks,
maybe u havent got the chance to check all filipino dishes i bet one of those will be ur favorite.
all the filipinos will flip on u
It doesn't smell bad to them; anyone who asks questions like this is ethnocentric and should really study ethnicity. You might be interested by the study.
they like to eat boogers
acquired taste and smell is referenced always to something and that also considers openmindedness and travel experience. some people like caviar others savor sauerkraut - have you smelled and tasted these, and there are other foods and other people. some delve on very spicy food, even herbs and flowers, and no matter how much perfume they put on, the body odor as well as the armpits really wreak
That's closed-mindedness on your end. What you might consider offensive- smelling or -looking food to you may be a delicacy in other culture. Why don't you actually try the food for yourself. You might actually find out that the food tastes good.
i could ask you the same question.
why do westerners eat blue cheese? its mouldy and it smells...those fungus are alive.
Let's forget all the insults and jabs. The Philippines has been declared by the UN as the "World's most disaster prone country.' Which means that natural calamities, especially typhoons, floods, landslides, droughts etc are very common. Hence, Filipinos depend upon whatever is available easily for food and that includes rice and its derivatives such as vinegar and seafood, since the country has over 7,000 islands - with a vast coastline. The Philippines also does not have any significant plantations of spices and other herbs that are used to give that "pep" to food and enhance its flavor. Cooking styles are also adapted to be as simple as possible and consuming the least possible time since Filipinos mainly worked as farmers or fishermen, while living in conditions where disasters can strike anytime. Filipino food also consists of a lot of preserves and preservatives, especially vinegar. The fish and vinegar accounts for the bad smell. Recipes from Filipino cuisine that do not include these two ingredients- do not have any "odor."

to me it does not smell bad. Food like beauty is in the partaker.you just have to be open minded and ready to take the plunge when confronted with something new to you and ethnic.By the way, oops your slip is showing.
