Kitty said: Yes.are sweet potatoes and yams the same thing?-I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(are sweet potatoes and yams the same thing?),it will help you,my kids.
Answers:
They are both tubers but they are very different.
Sweet Potatoes are originally from South America and have an orange color. They are what you have been eating for Thanksgiving all these years.
Yams comes in many varieties and colors and are no relation to sweet potatoes. Yams grow in Africa, South America and the Caribbean. Unlike sweet potatoes they can be toxic if eaten raw. Yams can grow up to seven feet long and weigh as much as 150 lbs. Once you have seen a real yam you will never confuse it with a sweet potatoe. Look for them in Asian, Latin American or Caribbean food markets.
(Do you really think they taste the same? I admit yams taste more like sweet potatoes than watermelon or roast pork but I don't think they taste the same.)
Other Answers:
Their two completely different veggies but basically the same thing and not much different in taste but their are tiny differences the yams here are actually sweet potatos, actual yams grow in tropical regions

They do have a similar taste. For me, it's easier to differentiate with color. Sweet potatoes has an orangey color. Yam is in purple
