pinto beans.
Clean beans first. remove broken or ugly beans. Rinse in water. Let soak overnight. this will help remove gas and cook faster. Drain soaking water then boil with 3 times as much water. boil for 30 mins. Add water if necessary. Be sure to stir occasionally when you start the boil. Reduce heat to very low and cover. After about 2 hours add salt to taste. Leave another 2 hours or until beans are soft, not powdery. (I usually add onions when I add salt, but that is my preference not traditional)

To refry. Heat a pan to medium high heat, add oil then beans. Cook for a few minutes then mash with same masher you use for mashed potatoes.
you can also use can whole beans then refry them too.
