I like spicy food and i have been recommended to try indian food.

Answers:
If you eat non-veg chicken biryani is pretty good.

If you want to try south-indian: Masala Dosa ... it is a long crepe filled with cooked vegetables that you dip into a broth.

If you want to try something sweet: Sikhand or Gulab Jamun.
kind of like a sweet donut in a syrupy sauce.

If you want a nice drink: Mango Lassi or just plain Lassi it is a flavored yougurt drink, kind of like go-gurt.

Other Answers:
Mmmmmmmm chicken korma!
Tandori chicken and anything cooked in a yogurt sauce, try some Massala tea also. Bon Apatite.
Chicken tikka masala is a good start, or saag paneer if you like spinach. Anything "vindaloo" is going to be good and spicy, but I'd start out at medium and work your way up. Enjoy!
me personally, i like chola batura for vegetarian food, and chicken tikka masala for non vegeterian. along with that, my mother has made fish biryani which is very tasty.

i am indian
Tandoori chicken is similar to BBQ chicken drumsticks - very good

My favorites are:

Chicken Tikka Masala is a chicken in a tomato sause over rice. Really good with Nan Bread to sop up the sauce

Chicken Masala is like a chicken with a lightly spiced gravy over rice again great with Nan Bread to soak up the sauce
Butter (tandoori) chicken
Chicken Tikka Masala. So good. You tell the waiter how hot you would like it. It gets pretty dang hot! They also have sampler type dinners. And you've got to order the naan. Yum!
CURRY
Biryani (rice dish), roghan josh (meat dish), naan (bread), dal makhani (lentil soup), gulab jamun (dessert). For a novice, these should be a good starter. If a vegetarian , then Masala Doas (spicy stuffed crepe), matar paneer (pea and cheese curry), and samosa or pakoras (fritters) should be good.
samosas, garlic naan, chicken vindaloo
Meat:
1) Chicken curry (medium)
2) Chicken vindaloo (hot)

Veggies:
1) Aloo Saag (potatoes and spinach)
2) Chana Saag (Chickpeas and spinach)

Order a side of naan (bread) to mop up the sauces with. Bon Apetit!
Most people, for the first time, order chicken tikka masala. For vegetarian I would recommend daal or chana masala.
Lamb saag is my fav.
One idea might be to order a "thali". This is kind of a sampler platter with several main dishes served together on the same plate (usually in separate bowls).

Some restaurants specialize in vegetarian thalis, others do thalis from particular regions of the subcontinent (Rajasthan, Goa, and so on).

That way, you can try a few different things and there is bound to be one you like.
