I am trying to come up with a menu for my Mom and Aunt's birthday party. It is a 50's theme. The only thing that I have come up with is Hamburgers. Any ideas?

In the 50's the introduction of Italian-style pizzas led to the Americanization and popularization of the delicious meat and veggie pie. It was before Pizza Hut and Dominoes took over. Most pizzas were eaten in cafes, but there was also the introduction of box pizza kits which contained all the makings for you to make your own.
Before the '50's pizza was virtually unknown outside of the Italian community. Your pizza if you did get one was likely to include anchovies as well as all the other stuff we have come to know and love.

I found Ice Box Cake...
Title: Bristol Ice Box Cake
Categories: Desserts, Pineapple, Easy, Cakes, Icebox
Yield: 8 Servings
1/4 c Butter, melted
2 c Crushed pineapple, drained
1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Pecans, chopped
3 c Vanilla wafer crumbs
1/2 pt Heavy cream, whipped
Mix first 4 ingredients. Line a 1 quart dish with a layer of crumbs, then a layer of mixture. Repeat the process, ending with crumbs. Refrigerate 3-4 hours or overnight.
To serve, garnish with whipped cream. Could substitute CoolWhip if desired.
remember in the 50's there were alot of items that came out of boxes and in the commercials many women were holding casserols. Also alot of picnics so potato salads, mashed potatos, green bean casseroles, Sloppy Joes, cookies were big time in those days like peanut putter cookies with the indentations and chocolate chip cookies, coffe cakes, pineapple upside down cake, ambrosia. OH AND POP CORN! Marshmallow Squares, you could go with TV dinners!
Martinis, Manhattans, Gimlets, Gibsons as drinks, Tom Collins, remember they always had a drink in their hands!! Oh and a cigarette in the other. You can decorate with cigarettes and hoola hoops as well.
