Answer:
No. They are NOT the same pepper, although they are similar and of the same species. See this article:

Polly
no, they are similar but there are their own differences...
they are the same
Scotch bonnet is one of the hottest peppers and is somewhat related to the eqally hot Habanero.
Nope, don't think so. Scotch bonnet peppers are the hottest peppers know to man. Honestly. They are often used in Carribbean cooking and hot sauces. Habanero peppers aren't as hot, although still pack a punch. I think they are used more in Mexican cuisine and also are used for hot sauces.
The only differences occur due to the soil and climate conditions in which they are grown.....Habeneros primarily in Central and South America and Scotch Bonnets in the Caribbean. Each ranges in heat between approimately 300,000 to 500,000 Scoville units.
For comparison, jalape?os average about 15,000 units.
yup they are pretty much the same, still not the hottest pepper though. The wild Tepin is, its grown in the desert of Mexico.

No they are not, scotch bonnets are much hotter and most people suggest wearing gloves when handling them.
Here is a web site that tells you the difference between the two.
