Its at country house hotel with sit down meal? In addition to the bill should the staff be tipped for service?
Answer:
Look at the bill, if it is a quality place it will say 'service included' on the bill usually adding 10-15%. If it does then dont tip.
I usally tip 10%.
around here tip is usually included for big parties. but if the service is good you can always give more.
It depends if there is a service charge included. Some places add 18-20% to the bill for service. If so, tip only those people who did something extraordinary for you.
10% is way outdated. if gratuity is not included, tip at least 20% of the bill. if there are servers who are doind exceptionally well, you should slip them a couple of bucks in cash. the entire waitstaff, bartenders, and busboys will pool tips and split in a large catered event like that. 10% is a sign that you are either really old or really cheap.
hi i am a hotel manager so this is a good q for me,
to start with where you find service inc you will find 9 times out of 10 this is not passed to the staff. also lots of placed here in the uk do not charge a service charge.
if you enjoy the service and wish to tip, the i would descreetly give it to the person in charge of that event after the meal, like me they would then distribute evenly between staff, it is not always the front of house staff that do all the work, and i ensure my chefs are also included, even if we all only get a pound each.
however most functions do not tip, i have found the ones that do and events like yours or the older ppls clubs etc, young functions rarely do, although we get lots of thankyou letters.
so your answer is personal preference,
hope this helps
If I were you then I would write a letter after the event to the staff that you dealt with and iclude a tip with it. That way you know its going to them
