I'm hosting a baby shower for my sister the end of the month, what are cute, inexpensive ideas for foods that I can make myself. I really want to get the geusts talking!

Answer:
this baby carraige made out of fruit is so cute and easy to make
The potted plant dessert. Get a new planter and line it with foil, vanilla pudding goes in the bottow, crushed oreo type wafer crackers on top to make it look like dirt. Then you can make flowers with twizzlers or anything you want. Serve it with a kids beach shovel.
Melt snickers bars in diapers!
take a watermelon and cut it on a ziz-zag leagthwise, and make it look like a baby buggy, or you could just serve your drinks in baby juice bottles
Make small pacifiers out of white lifesavers and jelly beans.
Since baby showers do not last that long...the best thing to do is have appetizers such as small sandwiches, chips dips, maybe a meat, cheese and cracker tray or a veggie tray. Also.. Having a chocolate fountain is one of the trendier things that have been added to baby shower to-do lists, and they are great for any size crowd. You can serve fruit, pound cake chunks, or marshmallows, pretzels and graham crackers to go with the chocolate.
And of course you will want to have a baby theme cake with punch.
Good Luck.
strawberry with cholate
Have your cake shaped like a baby rattle by using a rectangle cake pan and two round ones.
Cut the rectangle cake in half lengthwise, then add a single round layer on each end. Decorate it accordingly to look like a baby rattle.

You will probably need a long baking sheet covered in foil (add paper doilies underneath if you want to). Then place your cake layers on this.

To make a bigger cake, place the second half of the rectangle on top of the first after frosting, and make two additional rounds for the ends.
Give her a Mexican themed baby shower! Tie red, white and green streamers every where (they are really inexpensive for a roll). Go to a party store and you will find very cheap Cinco de Mayo decorations since the holiday has passed. Prepare some mini-cheesecakes by buying the "no-bake" mix and using tin cupcake shells instead of a pan. Top with tropical fruit like mango, avacado, or oranges (preferably canned as opposed to fresh because she's pregnant and it is safer).

Make a huge pan of Queso-chilli dip (one layer of ground turkey sauteed in taco mix, one layer of sour cream, one layer of jarred bean dip and a final layer of Queso cheese dip. Get a huge bowl of Tositos and that will definately fill up your guests.

Also serve a tray of fresh vegetables (cheaper if you cut them yourself or buy "baby" size)

Make a mini-taco buffet! soft tortilla shells are super cheap and you get a lot. Prepare of a pan of chicken breasts strips sauteed in taco mix and have little bowls of cheese, salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream for them to dress how they would.

Have silly pin the tail on the donkey games, a pinata of course, and virgin margaritas and daiquiris. Get your guest list together and once you have a total buy each a sombrero (less than $1 a piece at your local party store) as a party favor.

Don't forget your salsa music - less than $10 at a music store (generic tunes).
piggies in a blanket--wrap hot dog pieces or wienies in crescent dough cuts...just wrap it to look like diaper on the wienie

meatballs on sm skewers to look like little rattles...form ground beef on skewer to shape of rattle (oblong like) pan fry or bake can add sliver of red or green pepper wrapped around it for rattle stripe

roll out breadstick dough to form shape of tetthing rings, serve with a marinara dipping sauce

And those are just off top of my HEAD!
