I am throwing a surprise party for my bf, what are some great inexpensive ideas, i don't really want it to be themed... but if it's cool enough i might consider it! Thanks!
Answer:
What's the party for? Birthday? Promotion? Retirement?
What are his likes and dislikes?
My husband's birthday was back in May and he loves video games. I bought him a couple new games for his PS2 and rented another PS2 to hook up to our second tv. I set them both up in the living room and invited some of his buddies over. They played games all night. I made lots of snack food and hamburgers. I also had lots of beer. He loved it. The food and PS2 rental only cost me about $90.
How about a poker party? Simply have some friends over and play poker all night. Make easy to eat foods like chili and hamburgers.
Another way you could do a surprise party. Tell him you want to take him out to dinner. Halfway there "remember" you forgot something. Have all the guests waiting for you two there. Have each guest bring a dish or make things in advance and just heat them up.
Another way is to have a friend throw the party at their house. Simply figure out someway to explain why you are hanging out at the friend's house. When the guests arrive call him and tell him you need him to bring you something.

for mccain/powell '08.
Throw down A chill out lounge!
Set up a bar with a designated Bar Tender....
Martinis, mixed drinks, Create a Drink or shot named after him...then everyone has to drink to him...lol
Plan your music ahead....try the chill out series, Ibiza or buddha bar and throw in some disco.
Put out some food keep it simple Bite size stuff...tell your guests to eat dinner before that it's just a cocktail party.
To decorate....easy just dim the lighting, throw in a few red bulbs and light some candles
Let everyone kick back and lounge.
Have a big carton box delivered to the party with you inside it wearing your baby suit. When your bf opens it he'll have the surprise of his life.
Get a bunch of music from the year he was born. Tell all the guests to bring a dish from that era. It'll be a total retro party!
come as you are party
for refreshments have a pot luck party
everyone bring a dish [this could go with the come as you are [ you call everyone you want to come and tell them to come as they are and bring something to eat] and have fun cooking it up for him.. might be interesting to see what the menu turns out to be, of course have some soda or ice tea ready for party.....
