make it like you used to when you were 8. you know, have the cartoony plates that match the hats that match the paper table cloth, that match the streamers... serve finger food (pigs in blanket, mini hamburger, chex mix, don't forget the ice cream cake). Give out goodie bags with that junk you find in the "birthday isle" at Target and get a pinata too! Serve alcohol if you really want it to be fun :)
not sure where you live, but make reservations at a restaurant like elephant bar, tia margarita, p.f. changs or any restauant that caters to the 20+ crowd and where alcohol is involved. that's always fun.
Fondue! You can stand around eating it. There is not much cooking to do. Making several sauces to dip into makes sure everyone will find something. Even the vegetarians. Do two different cheese pots and a chocolate pot. Look online for recipes and dipper ideas. This is really a lot of fun. You can have wine and it will feel very trendy
