I'm on a budget, but I'm sure I could get our friends to pitch in. I was thinking about having a surprise party at his house (it's bigger than mine), but I need some creative and unique ideas. I REALLY want to make this memorable for him.
Answer:
1. Come up with a theme. If he likes movies, throw a movie theme party using his favorite movie. If he likes sports, pick the game that he thinks is the most interesting.
2. Decide on a guest list.
3. Have fun ideas. If using the movie theme, watch the movie and have a trivia game. Have door prizes for the winners of the games. Do a trivia of him, asking him questions about growing up, college, best friends best time he had out, and then have a trivia with his friends to see who knows him the best.
4. Have fun food that is easy to make and easy to maintain. You want the food to serve itself, so that you can kind of float around the party and just check on everyone, not have to do a lot of work, (you will work enough preparing). What is his favorite foods? Maybe you could have a fondue party? You could all gather in the living room on a large table and sit on pillows to eat yummy fondue.
If friends are willing to pitch in and you like sushi, how about hire a sushi chef. Talk to him about how much and how many people. Usually you can buy 1 pound of any fish and it goes a LONG way. I have made it before.
You could also do like a bon-fire and have a bbq with his favs.
When my sweetie has his birthday I took him out to eat thai (his fav) with all our friends and then we took the party back to our house to eat some ice cream cake (personalized for him) and champagne. And played balderdash.

Rap was just getting really big, glam rock was going out and grunge was coming in. And who can forget Whitney and Celine? Everyone has a favorite musician/group. Go with that and make it almost tacky with the theme.
have a Hawaii Beach party...everyone would be in their beach gear, with flower necklaces and decoration is easy
You could make his favorite food, put on his favorite movie, have all of his best friends over, have a cake, some of his favorite music, play his favorite games like maybe SceneIt or a board game or something like 80's Trivia Pursuit, if theres gonna be kids over have something outside for them like a picnic table or somthin 4 them to eat on but make sure yu watch them!!! lol! good luck! take my advice!
