Onions have nothing to do with emotions. The fumes and vapors of the onion give your eyes a bit of an "allergic reaction" they water up as a defense mechanism. No sobs involved. But if onions had emotions, I don't think they'd be onions anymore but something else entirely.

Perhaps the onion fancies himself as nature's counselor, drawing out our frustrated tears. If so, he'd say, "Go ahead. Let it all out. No, you're not a bad person; HE's the one who doesn't appreciate you, never comes home for dinner on time that you work so hard to prepare." Then at the end of the day he'd feel rewarded for having helped another patient.
