This will be a party of mostly women in there 40's.not big drinkers. I would like to offer a few hard liquers for mixed drinks.what would you say the top 4 most haves are, and please list them in order of importance. Can you also list the top 4 sodas and beer I should have on hand. Thanks!
Answers:
Beers:
Domestic regular & Light (Budweiser & Bud Light)
Something a bit darker (Sam Adams or Killians, maybe a local favorite, ask the liquor store guy)
Import (Theres one or two people at every party that want Heineken)
Sodas (mixers):
Coke & Diet Coke
7-UP
Sour (Squirt, or some other grapefruit soda)
A couple energy drinks (Red-bull or Clone - have become popluar as mixers)
Liquors:
Red, White, & Blush wines
Spiced Rum (Capt. Morgan)
Decent Whiskey (Crown Royal is a solid standard, don't go cheap here)
Vodka (Absolut, Sky)
Other Answers:
In my experience, I always have:
White wine
Red wine
Vodka
Gin
Vermouth (for making martinis)
Clamato (ceasers)
Sodas?
Hmmmm.
Coke.
Maybe 7up.
Beer?
Heinikin (sp?)
Corona
Have fun!
i dunno, i hate alcahol, soooo, i dunno.
but soda?
pepsi!!!!!
Rum
Vodka
Gin
Captain Morgan
Coke
Squirt
7-Up
club soda
Corona
Michelob Ultra (for those on low carb diets)
Bud Light
Bud
Stoli's Vodka and mixers, (triple sec and lime juice with Stoli's make an awesome Kamakaze!) red wine, white wine, Rolling Rock with lime. Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, 7-up.
Rum and Coke, sweet and sour mix and Tequila (gotta have margaritas) and I would throw some Coronas in there as well.
You mention hard liquors so I won't mention any wines.
Hard liquor:
1) Vodka - vodka martinis are really in now.
2) Rum - This is the foundation for tropical cocktails. Puree sweet fruit flesh (i.e. mango, strawberries, etc.) with ice and rum as you would do to make margaritas.
3) Tequila - When it's hot, nothing beats a cold slushy margarita to cool you down. Or if the girls want to get a little wild, nothing beats tequila straight up in several shot glasses with lime wedges and salt. More than one person should participate in this and make it a contest to see who finishes first. Each tequila must be gulped in one motion.
4) Gin - gin and tonic is very refreshing and easy on the palate. Don't forget the twist of lime.
Don't get any variety of whiskeys. Women do not usually like the taste.
Don't forget to have all the condiments for the cocktails.
Green olive, lime, sea salt, tooth picks, cherries, fresh wedges of tropical fruit (pineapples are normally used), paper umbrellas, etc.
Also you'll need mixers: vermouth, tonic water, tequilla mix, club soda, grenadene, concentrated fruit juices (if you don't like to cut up fresh fruit.
Sodas and beer:
2/3 diet and 1/3 regular Coke. Women tend to choose diet soda over regular.
Beers would be Bud or Miller Lite (diet) and Corona (regular - make sure you stick a wedge of lime at the top of the bottle). Never get canned beer for a party, always bottled (looks better and keeps the beer cold longer.
Have fun.
There are no rules... you can provide as much or as little as you want, depending on your budget and the tastes of your friends. It is perfectly fine to only have wine and beer, or only margaritas with Mexican-themed food, or only rum punch with a tropical-theme party, or only wine and martinis if it is a sophisticated crowd. Because people are drinking less for health reasons these days, I don't think everyone automatically expects a full bar any more.
The only thing to be sure of is that you have some good non-alcoholic alternatives for those who prefer not to drink.
