we call it bacon....man stupid americans
Bacon.
They call it bacon.
Canadian bacon is actually ham in the states.
bacon, eh
Bacon ?
In countries associated with the British empire such as Canada, bacon is mostly smoked ham with a rind of fat. In the USA, bacon is striped with lines of fat. The US style of Bacon is called streaky bacon in those countries.
Americans call UK style bacon Canadian bacon because that is the only source of UK style bacon Americans know.
One thing for sure, UK style bacon contains much less fat.
Bacon! lol!! If you are wondering what Canadian bacon actually is- it is Peameal bacon. And when we get this particular kind which is what Americans confuse regualr bacon with. Canadian bacon is translated as Peameal Bacon in Canadianese (no pun intended). It is rather expensive, but when you come to Canada you must try it. It used to have peameal around the bacon to preserve it.. but now they use cornmeal as it is easier. It resembles a slice of ham.. but the texture is so much different and it has a thin coating of yellow cornmeal around it. It is absolutely amazing. I live in America now and miss so many foods in Canada and this is one of them indeed.
But please keep in mind- (i don't know what you know about acnada but it doesn't seem like you are too aquainted with the country- which is OK.. not many Americans do).. But for the record- Most of Canada, especially South Eastern Ontario is hot in the summer.. with a record of 40 deg C this summer! 38 deg C equals 100 deg F. And it is cold in the winter.. We have extremely hot summer and extremely cold winters. Not many people live above the border lining the states. And we have cars and do not drive moose to work.. and we don't live in igloos like they do in Alaska and the Northern Canadian provinces. :)

Dr Why couldn't be more wrong. Canadian Bacon was invented by George Hormel who, at the time was located in upstate Minnesota near the Canadian border. In fact the actually raw material that was used in his the original batch came from a part of the farm that was actual in Canada, hence the name. The only unique factor of this product was its form; a long cylindrical shaped whole muscle ham product. To further it's uniqueness he opted to call it Canadian bacon rather than a ham, European style bacon versus streaky bacon is actually ultra thin slices of pork loin or pork strip loin, hence its lean quality and is commonly referred to in Ireland as "Rashers". Streaky bacon, or American style bacon, is cut from the pork belly, hence it's inherent fat content. European bacon and Canadian bacon are not same product at all and are not referred to as the same product either here or abroad. All Canadian bacon is, is a ham product w/a name to differentiate it from other ham products. The name is a marketing gimmick only. It's a ham product.
We call bacon, well bacon. As for Canadian bacon it is referred to as back bacon. Or pemeal bacon if it is rolled in corn meal.
Don't they call it a wanker?
