It's a conspiracy by bun and hotdog companies!

Marketing! It's a question that has been unsolved for years and years now... will we ever know? No...

unless it's just to make people spend more money. Then we already know the answer.

To force you to stand in the grocery aisle, trying to remember how to determine the lowest common denominator. ; ) Cause they want you to buy 40 hotdogs and 40 buns. Either that or they figure 1 out of 5 ppl like their hot dogs without the bun or want to make a double hot dog.

Cuz sometimes you leave the hotdog in the boiling water too long, and before you know it the fire alarm is going off cuz all the water boiled out.

well, you need more than one hotdog sausage per bun! so u will buy more

Pick an answer from the same question someone asked just four days ago:

To make you keep buying more not all hot dogs come in 10 packs... there are 8 packs out there too

so you will have to buy more, if i had a hot dog or bun company, however, i would sell both and match them up, and outsell my competition
