When I was a child I hads a subscription to WORLD magazine and in the rear of that magazine was a Q /A section sent by readers. Someone would send in a query that staff in the mag thought was worthy and other kids had until the next issue was published to answer it. This very question was put forth right around the time of the original commercial. "...Huh? I dunno...go ask mr. Owl...He knows Everything..."
According to Amber Lowe of Chicago, Illinois, it required 11, 438 and One Half licks to get to the center of a Tootsie roll Tootsie pop. Why I remember this? I was amazed that the kid had that kind of time on her hands.
142 for me, but I'm usually not that patient.
As many licks your tongue can handle! I really never tried finding out because I always chew the tootsie pop for the center!
