Our fishing heritage and our boats are being dry docked!. !.!.!.!.!? The government must increase quotas, sort out a fuel policy or the price of fish will only be afforded by the rich and famous in the top fine dining restarts, our children future is in danger of not knowing what a visit to a fish n' chip shop was all about and that taste of Cod or Haddock!.!.!.!.!. thoughts pleaseWww@FoodAQ@Com
Answers: Hi RobboOne,
I agree with you totally we could do more with other species ie:
more promotion recipes etc!. but would we really change to deep fried sprat or red gurnet with our chips and mushy peas we are at present pushing pollock which has great texture and fries well but people are reluctant, the bottom line is us Brits don't like change
Regards!.!.!.!.

I agree that it's a dire situation for our fishing heritage, but the quotas are there because the natural supply of seafood is scarce and needs to be protected!. Removing the quotas and lowering the price of seafood will not solve the problem of scarce supply!. It will make it worse by overfishing, with long-term effects on the populations of these species in the fishing regions!.
It's a sad situation!. It would be nice if smaller fishermen could be protected to continue their heritage, giving them priority over larger commercial fleets, but probably not realistic!. It's similar to what has happened to the small farmer and small business owner!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
What's the danger is the people up in Peterhead and the broch!. Look at how many boats have been decommissioned in the NE of Scotland and how the industry has basically died, it's the saddest thing to see unfolding!. It's already unfolded though!. The heritage is more than the taste of fish in these areas, it's their livelyhood!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The problem is not that "only the rich will be able to afford it" but that fish will just not be available ! The vast majority of fish landed and sold in the U!.K!. is sold by auction - so the fisherman has no control over the price of fish and has to take what he is given! Due to the price of fuel at the moment and the derisory, politically driven, quotas that the U!.K!. fleet suffer from, the day is not far away that it will not be worthwhile, financially, to go to sea to catch fish - perhaps at a loss !! I bet it would not happen in Spain or France!. (our EU "partners")Www@FoodAQ@Com
What is the question!? Surely, there are other fishes with the same consistency, flavor and texture of cod and haddock!.
Maybe the change will do all of you good!. Experience new things!. Cod and haddock are overfished and greedy fisherman have raped the seas for decades!. Supply and demand is what it is all about!. Pip-pip and all that rot!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
That already happens and has been for years!. Our fish and chip shop is now so expensive i no longer go near it!.
And many fish are now so expensive in the supermarket that before long i can see just those with mega salaries can afford to buy!. This all came about because of the EEC and now we will see this just get worse!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I live in Scotland and I can't/don't remember what the inside of a chippie looks like!.
I can just about afford the crappy black stuff you get in white fish fingers!.!.!.!.
The fishing industry in Scotland is dead!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Try Aldi,they sell fishfingers lol!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
