In a study about 16 years ago, there was a claim that 25% of the world was vegetarian. I think it may have been a mishap because the only country with a large population of vegetarians is India. Hong Kong, China, and Japan have VERY large populations but only 1.5% claimed to be vegetarian.
There may be a maximum of 15% of vegetarians worldwide, but I'm sure the number is much lower.
As for american universities, probably not even 1%, sadly.
Let's go with one percent. And in the world, even less. Most people are supporters of PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals).
I am in University and I haven't met many vegetarian students. I live in a university town and the most vegetarian-unfriendly places are bars and clubs where students hang out. Some of the upperscale bars don't have a single veggie item on their menu.
