Answers: I think it's because not everyone likes to eat hotdogs on bread/buns. Some folks like just camping and having hotdogs on a stick sans the bun or even hot dogs cut into little pieces and served with pork n beans or as they called it back then..beanie weanies. I think it is a versatillity ploy to do with marketing. Also, some people like to eat two dogs to a bun.
