True a chef should not wear any rings while cooking. However, as far as the "type" of people who wear silver thumbrings...yeah, uh, I'd love to know the "type". I have a few "guy" friends and many girlfriends that wear them....and????
Many restaurants will not allow the cooks to wear any ring that is not a wedding ring. I don't get guys who wear rings anyway.
But the thing that gets me is the waitstaff who play with their hair before handling your food. As a cook, I've had food come back several times that had hair in it that came from a waitress.
