Answers:
I've never heard of it being used for this. It's generally a sublimation agent(will bind to other substances and carry them through the skin). I have heard of it being used in conjunction with an ice pack to reduce inflammation in horses. It will, however, gradually dry out your skin, and you will instantly develop extremely bad breath. The effects are short lived, as it is quickly metabolized by your body. I think it's pretty tough on your liver too.

Other Answers:
I have used dmso for joint pain in my hands. I found it to be somewhat helpful. My husband used it for his back, but it made it skin burn, so I don't know if it helps with sciatica.
