in my dream i got the distinct impression that she had some sort of brain damage, i'm just curious to know if a change in eye color so drastic is possible and if so what are the causes?!

well, I'm a nurse, and I've never heard of a change in eye color like that. I don't think it's possible, it doesn't seem to physiologically make sense, but--I am not an MD.
What I also am is a mom, though, and I know that it's quite normal to have worries or weird dreams about our children. Probably unnecessary, but very normal.
