ADD/ADHD is not an imaginary disorder. It is a chronic developmental disorder which is genetically based. It is not a learning disability, but can co?exist with learning disabilities in approximately 25 to 33 percent of those diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.
I am taking concerta. It is fine for this problem. There are side effects however.
I never heard of anyone who is taking or is told to take two different kinds of this medication together. I am not positive but I don't think it is a good idea.

ADHD is a condition made up by the drug companies. Don't give him any medication for it. He's 6 years old! Let him be a kid, don't teach him that drugs are the answer! Kids usually don't want to concentrate anyway.
Each case is different. It is unlikely that the medicine is harmful, I had ADHD as a kid but it was the late 60's and they didn't medicate us back then. Somehow we all turned out fine. Most schools want the kids medicated so they don't create a disruption and not because it is necessarily best for the child. Age 6 is a bit early to begin seriously medicating kids. Most doctors now believe that brain chemistry and development isn't finished until age 18, perhaps even LATER. Problems now don't necessarily mean a lifetime of medicines.
My son also has ADHD he is on concerta and is doing fine with it.we've tried everything else prescribed but Concerta seems to be the answer.We only give it to him during school and let him be his self on the weekends My son, is 12 and has been on it since he was 7 he will grow out of this need somewhere around the 9th or 10 th grade I'm told by my doctor.It has really helped him concentrate and improved his grades! You're not hurting him by giving him the medication my son seems to eat less while on the medication though.he is active in sports and that helps also.Hope I've helped some.

My son HAD ADHD. I didn't like the medication he was on. So this is what i did. Kids who are very hyper need structure. I gave him a very strict routine. You as a parent have to stick to it. It will be very hard for about 3 days, but once they learn what it is that they have to do everyday, it brings them comfort. ADHD kids are constantly thinking, like a T.V whose channels keep changing. As long as they know whats next, they find comfort in that. Start the routine with wake up time, then breakfast, change clothes, put them away, make bed, brush teeth, etc. It's takes a little While, but it is so worth it. After the temper tantrum stop, your child will be so much for the better for it. My son is now 14, and is a Honor roll student, and has been ever since.
