all the recipes i have found on sugar cookies says to roll out the dough and cut with a cookie cutter, i want to just make round cookies? and does anyone have a good sugar cookie recipe?

If you just want them round then form them into balls and put them in the pan. www.allrecipes.com is great for recipes, I like the ones with sour cream!

Thats the way you do sugar cookies, you have to roll out the dough, then cut your round cookies with a cookie cutter, I don't think you can make drop sugar cookies

just roll the dough into thick ropes, freeze for awhile, and use a sharp knife to cut into rounds. or you could roll dough into balls and put on cookie sheet. they will turn out to be round.

VANILLA-BEAN SUGAR COOKIES

You will need to chill the dough at least 4 hours. Also, if you bake these cookies a couple of days ahead, the vanilla flavor will become more pronounced.

3/4 stick (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons cold vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
2 vanilla beans
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

In a bowl with an electric mixer beat together butter, shortening, and 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. With a knife halve vanilla beans lengthwise. Scrape seeds into butter mixture and beat in egg and vanilla extract until combined well. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into mixture and beat until just combined.
On a large sheet of wax paper form dough into a 10- by 2-inch log and roll up in wax paper. Chill dough until firm, at least 4 hours. Dough keeps up to 3 days wrapped in wax paper and foil.

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Put remaining 1/4 cup sugar on a platter. Remove wax paper and roll log in sugar (not all sugar will adhere to log). Cut log crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices and dip cut sides of slices in sugar on platter. Arrange cookies 1/2 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets and bake in batches in middle of oven 10 to 12 minutes, or until edges are pale golden. With a metal spatula transfer cookies to a rack to cool. Cookies may be made 2 days ahead (see note, above) and kept between sheets of wax paper in an airtight container.

Makes about 36 cookies.


Any good cookbook will have a recipe. A trick I learned for more tender cookies, when it says to roll in flour, use powered sugar instead. If you don't have a round cookie cutter, just use a glass, hold the bottom in your hand and cut away. Try looking for a "Tea Cake" Cookie. I believe you may be able to find one that can be rolled out in your hands and pressed flat with a fork or finger.

You definitely don't need to roll them out. You can drop them by teaspoon onto a cookie sheet and push them down with a fork like peanutbutter cookies, press them down with your fingers, with the back of a spoon, or just leave them alone and bake them. Do whatever you like and try a little trial and error. It's really hard to mess up a sugar cookie. if you just want to make round ones, flour a jar lid or glass and cut them out with that, or a biscuit cutter (of course, if you are like me, you use a jar lid for the biscuits. i have a good recipe...it makes as much as 168 cookies...2 inch in diameter, but i never get that many out of it, since i make big pumkins and christmas trees with it...1cup shortening, 2cups sugar 6 tablespoons milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 3 beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon salt, 3 teaspoons baking powder, and 5 1/2 cups of flour...if you are using self rising flour, leave out the salt and baking powder, of course. cream shortening, add the sugar, and milk & vanilla to the egg mix, then sift your dry ingredients together. add the dry alternately with the wet to the creamed sugar and shortening til just mixed and looks like cookie dough. chill the dough, then roll out on floured board to 1/4 inch thickness. cut out in any shape your heart desires and baek in 375 degree (farhenheit) oven for 15 minutes...for easy icing you will need: 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or other flavoring, 1 1/2 tablespoon cream, milk, or water. blend the sugar, salt, and flavoring, add creadm to make easy to spread...if desired, tint with a few drops of food coloring. spread on cookies w/spatula or spoon or pastry brush, let dry, pass around!

i dont have a recipe for sugar cookies but instead of using a cookie cutter u can use a glass or try your own shape!!

The best round cookie cutters is a drinking glass or clean tuna can.
