Answers:
1 pkg Fleischmann's RAPID RISE Yeast
3 1/2 Cups Gold Medal Flour USE GOLD MEDAL OR PILLSBURY FLOUR, BECAUSE THERE REALLY IS A DIFFERENCE IN FLOUR. I'VE TRIED OTHER BRANDS WITH POOR RESULTS.
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup dry powdered milk

Mix dry ingredients together in one bowl.

In another bowl, mix one large egg with 3 Tablespoons oil. I use Canola.

Add one cup of HOT water (about 120 to 130 degrees)

Immediately mix the dry ingredients into the liquid. You may have to add more flour.

Knead well, until the dough doesn't stick too badly to your hands. Don't make it too thick, tho. Let it rest for at least 10 minutes, then shape and put in baking pans. Allow to rise until at least doubled in size. Bake in 350 degree oven until golden brown on top and sounds hollow when you thump it.

After removing from oven, immediately butter it all over to prevent it drying out and getting hard.

Basic White Bread

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

5 3/4 - 6 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 package active dry yeast

2 1/4 cups milk

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon shortening, butter, or margarine

1 teaspoon salt

RECIPE METHOD

In a large mixing bowl combine 2 1/2 cups of the flour and the yeast; set aside. In a medium saucepan heat and stir milk, sugar, shortening, butter, or margarine, and salt till mixture is warm (120 -130 degrees F) and shortening, butter, or margarine is almost melted. Add to flour mixture. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic (6-8 minutes total). Shape into a ball. Place in a lightly greased bowl; turn once. Cover and let rise in a warm place till double (about 45 minutes).

Punch dough down. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough in half. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Lightly grease two 8x4x2-inch loaf pans. Shape each half of dough into a loaf by patting or rolling. To shape dough by patting, gently pull dough into a loaf shape, tucking edges underneath. To shape dough by rolling, roll each half into a 12x8-inch rectangle. Roll up tightly, starting at a narrow edge. Seal with fingertips as you roll. Place shaped dough in prepared loaf pans. Cover and let rise in a warm place till nearly double (30-40 minutes).

Bake in a preheated 375 degrees oven for about 40 minutes, or till crust is golden and bread sounds hollow when tapped. If necessary, cover loosely with foil the last 10 minutes of baking to prevent overbrowning. Remove from pans immediately; cool on wire racks.

Mix well and wait a few months.
Best thing, seriously, is a bread machine. The recipe I have for white bread came with the machine and it is to die for.
My recipe is going to the local grocery store and purchasing the white bread that's on sale. It can't get any simpler than that, well you could always have someone else go get it for you too, but that's the simpliest.
2cup luke warm milk 2Tbsp sugar 1 1/2 tsp salt Mix together Add 2 pkgs yeast to the warm mixture. Add 2 eggs beaten 4 Tbsp shortening (melted) and 5 cups flour ( a little at a time ) Beat until smooth and it will form a ball . Cover and let rise until very light , about 1 hour . Punch down and put into a greased tube pan Let rise until it reaches with in 1 inch of the top of pan . Bake until golden brown at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. serve with butter and jam Yummy

INGREDIENTS:

6 to 7 cups all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
2 packages quick acting or active dry yeast
2 1/4 cups scalded milk cooled to about 120°
PREPARATION:

Mix 3 1/2 cups of flour with sugar, salt, shortening and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Add very warm milk; beat for about 1 minute. Stir in enough of the remaining flour, a cup or so at a time, until dough is easy to handle.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead, adding more flour as necessary to keep it from sticking, until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes. Place dough in a large buttered mixing bowl. Turn dough over so greased side is up. Cover with a clean dish towel and let rise in a warm place, out of drafts, for about 1 hour, or until doubled. When dough is touched, an indentation will remain.

Punch dough down and divide into two equal portions. Flatten each half with hands or rolling pins into a rectangle about 18x10 inches. Starting at 10-inch edge, roll dough tightly; pinch long seam together. With sides of hands, press each end of loaf; fold ends under loaf. Place loaves, seam side down, in loaf pans (approximately 9 x 5 x 3-inch). Brush each loaf lightly with butter. Cover loosely with clean dish towels and let rise until double, about 35 to 50 minutes. Preheat oven to 425°. Bake loaves on a low rack, so tops of pans are at the center of the oven. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Bread will sound hollow when lightly tapped.

Makes 2 loaves of white bread.
