Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(A Question on 2-liter soda bottles..?),it will help you,my kids.
Back in the 1980s, 2 liter soda bottles had some sort of plastic covering on the bottom. It has since been removed for a while now. Is there any specific reason why it was removed?
Answer:
Certainly to cut back on materials which is not only good for the environment but cuts back on their cost. Also it was a simply design update, the bottom of the bottles were changed so that they could stand on their own. companies are always trying to perfect on design.
They redesigned the bottom of the bottles so that the extra plastic was no longer needed. It was a "green" move to help cut down on resources.
wow, i forgot about those..but it was probably removed because it was a waste of plastic
save mnoey i guess
It was there for added strength
plastic back then were rather weak
so now that the plastics are stronger we do not need the added support
In the early days of blown-plastic bottle technology, the bottoms were round to insure release from the molds. This worked, but made a bottle that wouldn't sit upright on its own.
The plastic cup fixed that.
Now, the dimples on the bottom of the bottle act as 'feet' and voila! A cost and time savings!
Best wishes!
Even though plastic is super cheap to manufacture, probably just to save money. I remember those. It was sort of like a cup to set the bottle in. Isn't it funny how a 2 liter costs around a $1.20 and so does a single serving of soda (20 ounce). Less plastic, same price.
I don't know the answer for sure.. But I can guess! :) I am thinking that when they first designed the bottles, they put that on the bottom to make it harder and less resistant to breakage. Over the years, they were probably able to develop a way to make the bottles with stronger bottoms without needing that part on the bottom.
That's my guess.. Just simply updated their manufacturing to no longer require the extra piece of plastic.
Why does it matter, its not 1980 anymore.
