Did Coke taste different in the 1930's vs the present. Are there slightly different ingrediants in the newer version than in the 1930's,1940's,1950's.
Answer:
I don't know about the 30's and 40's but it is definitely different from the cocacola of the 60's.
If you want to see what coca cola in 1967 tasted like, get yourself a bottle of Jolt Cola.
The ad _used to say_ "Twice the caffein and all the sugar"
Hopefully, that is still true as it was just like Coke used to be.
The junk in coke bottles now is not anything like what it should be. Thank you , food police.
At that time, coke syrup came from a pump at the counter, and then seltzer was added to make it fizzy. Yes, it was definitely different, and much better. the "soda jerk", as they were called at the time could add more syrup if you were a special person..Ah, the memories
My Mom (who's kinda afraid of "that internet" so I'm answering for her!) says that Coke was a syrup that they mixed up fresh at the Drug Store or soda fountain, and it was thicker, sweeter, and had a bigger caffeine jolt. When it was bottled, it seemed a little weaker, but it was frequently used to "settle the stomach" as a home remedy, even into the sixties. She thinks the formula changed forever in the 60's.
Coca-Cola did once contain an estimated nine milligrams of cocaine per glass, but in 1903 it was removed. After 1904, Coca-Cola started using, instead of fresh coca leaves, "spent" leaves - the leftovers of the cocaine-extraction process with cocaine trace levels left over at a molecular level. So that tasted a lot diferent than now.
plus, back then (and later) sugar was the primary sweetener, whereas now, the lethal HighFructose Corn Syrup is used...that tastes different too.
for a while they had changed the recipe, then they changed it back which is why is says classic on the bottle/can
I wasn't here for the 30's but it is different from the 60's til now.I think they added more fizz,it can be strong. But good. Thanks for 2.
I drank coke back then I really don't remember.
Back in the 70's it was stronger. And it was fizzier.
