I was told they get taurine thats used in drinks like Sobe No Fear from bull sperm.
Answer:
well, they might.
the bull reference has to do with taurine's discovery. according to Wikipedia, taurine was first isolated from bovine bile, not sperm, semen, or urine. Taurus = bull => taurine
common sources of taurine nowadays are brewer's yeast, eggs and dairy.
but, a kosher organization has alerted observant Jews to check with manufactuers of products that include taurine, because, "A report from Kosher Alerts provides the following:The common 'Taurine' found in all baby formulas, its source may be from an animal source (an extract of ox bile or shark’s blood). Check with the manufacturer or the kosher certifier. The ingredient 'Glocosamine' [sic] for healing joints, its source may be from snails (non-kosher). The Freeda pharmacy in NYC has a substitute that comes from a kosher source. The Raskins Italian style marinated cod fish lists in the ingredient panel "lactose" which is of course a Dairy ingredient. After talking with the Certifier it was determined that there is indeed NO lactose, & is Parve. The fish products from Ossie's in Brooklyn, NY should be used 'only' if raw & with skin attached. There is a new site on the web to locate kosher products & the name of the certifier. http:\\www.kosherFinder.com (N.B.: the site is presently under construction. Naami)."
Snopes (a reliable and popular urban legend site), however, says that there is no evidence that taurine comes from bull testicles -- i'm assuming that includes semen, but it doesn't necessarily preclude bile. according to Snopes, "whispers state that the drink is formulated from bull testicles, or that it's been proved to be wildly addictive, or that its drinkers will test positive in drug tests after downing just half a can, or that it shivers on the verge of being banned throughout Europe...all of these rumors are untrue."
No. Its Bull Pee. Taurine is normally found in energy drinks such as monster. It doesnt matter though cause they filter it all out
