Answer:
I've wondered this too. i've come to the conclusion that it doesn't - as the gas escapes the liquid it will fill up and expand a compressed bottle before pressure increases. In an uncompressed bottle pressure will increase straight away. but I haven't done the maths on this.
If you mean squeezing the liquid to the top after taking some out and then tightening the cap, then the answer is yes. I always do it.
Not for very long. I always get cans because I find bottles always go flat within a a couple of days.
no, ive tried to do it. but it doesnt work. i wish it did, just try closeing the lid as tightly as u can
cheers
i dont know.i will give it a try and let you know the answer
Yes, reducing the amount of air in the bottle means that the CO2 in the fizzy drink has less air to escape into, meaning that it stays in the drink keeping it fizzy.

But a fizz keeper works better as it pumps the bottle full of air pressurising it, this means that the CO2 in the drink cannot escape.
no it does not work, which makes me wonder why i keep doing it ':/
Don`t do it!! It absolutely DOES NOT prolong the fizzyness. All that happens is the gas escapes from the liquid and forces the bottle to expand. To retain fizzyness you should buy a small pump stopper and just pump air into the bottle after you have opened it. The air will create a pressure in the bottle and help to keep the fizz in your drink.
Yes,The smaller the space the least gas can escape.
