I have two boxes of Sir Thomas Lipton Earl Grey and English Breakfast made in Canada. For how long are they good for consumption? There's no best before date on the packs. Generally speaking, does anyone know the validity period of Earl Grey tea? I think I bought these in 2004. Thanks!

Normally shelf life for tea in hot/tropical climate is two years from production date. In colder climate, it can go upto max 3 years. However, all depends on the storage conditions. Moreover, tea loooses its liquor, strength etc. over a period and after two years you may not find the tea good in taste or refreshing. May be you can try a cup and find out if the tea has retained its strength. If it's not good enough in taste or aroma, dump it in the bin! In any case, tea bought in 2004 would not go bad or will not have any bad effect on your system after consuming. Next time don't sit on any product for two years, for that matter, I would say, consume any product within reasonable time after buying to enjoy its real taste. Enjoy your cuppa!
If they are sealed they should be OK, the best way to find out is to taste it :D. An open packet will probably have lost most of its taste by now.

I've used tea bags 3-4 years old before and had no problem at all. Just brew one, take a small sip, and if it's good go for it. If not, you know to discard the box.
if they are individually wrapped then no expiration so long as the seal is in tact.....tea is not a perishable item in general so you will not get sick.....remember back in colonial days teas were stored in barrels for long periods of time...... if you are really concerned (but I wouldn't be.....we are not talking milk or dairy products here :^) ) got to Liptons web page and check it out....
If a product can go bad then it must have an expiration date on it.....no date? I wouldn't worry then.
Typically, we in the coffee and tea industry suggest that tea be use within one year. If, your tea has been kept in a sealed moisture proof container realistically, it, doesn't have an expiration. You may notice that as the tea ages, the flavor may be less bright or appear slightly cloudy. For the most part, it should be fine as long as your enjoying it.
