Nondairy means not made from milk, so it would probably say "edible oil product" somewhere on it. This isn't as bad as it sounds but isn't the greatest thing for health.
It's somewhere between ice cream and whipped cream for firmness and sweetness, I'd say.
It's usually/always? sold in plastic containers like the ones margarine is sold in. look for it near the ice cream or frozen fruit.
Some brands I know of are Cool Whip and Spoon 'n Serve.

That could be either Rice Dream chocolate-flavored frozen dessert or the soy version.. They are actually quite good, and if you use a soy ice cream, you get the added benefit of protein in your smoothie.
**Cool-Whip is not non-dairy, so don't use that if you are trying to stay away from milk, whey or casein.
You can find either of these products at large supermarkets, Whole Foods, or Vitamin Cottage. you can find milk/dairy free icecreams in some places. Otherwise use chocolate sorbet which is actually quite yummy!
