Answer:
I grow about 15 to 20 pepper varieties every year. If you plan on growing any pepper mainly hot peppers you need to start the seeds in late January inside your home or in a greenhouse. They take about 90 to 120 days before they start producing peppers. When my seedlings ate 4 to 6" in height they go outside in well fertilized and loose soil. I place a soaker hose around them and in Hot climates like Redding, Ca water at barely a trickle 20 hours a day. It gets 120 F. degrees and they love the heat. Also don't plant different pepper varieties close together. They cross pollinate very easily. Space about 20 to 30 feet apart between varieties. Have you ever eaten a spicy bell pepper or sweet jalapeno? That's why. Grow in full sun and pick the first set of flowers to keep the plant growing in size for a higher yield. My jalapenos often grow 3' by 3' and I've had scotch bonnet pepper plants get up to 7' tall. use a good fertilizer like cow manure once a month or miracle grow every 2 weeks for the best results. I make tobacco tea for an insecticide that works real well. Just drop 2 cigarettes into a gallon of water and let it sit for 2 to 3 days before using. carefully pour into a spray bottle and spray on plants when bugs are a problem. otherwise just buy them from a store until next year your seeds should store ok as long as you keep them cool and dry.
yes! i grow peppers ALL the time. just start them out in good soil and once the plants start to sprout you need to make sure they get A LOT of sunlight. also, when you see those first flowers come on the plant, make sure to pinch those off. that will force the plant to grow a little larger and in the long run you'll get more peppers.
Put them is a moist paper towel until they sprout. Transplant them into a Styrofoam cup (fill it a 1/3 full of soil) Keep in a cool somewhat bright window sill and it should take root. Then transplant to larger ceramic pot with drainage holes and continue growing 'til large enough to transplant to outdoor garden.
yeah just go to the store and buy jalapenos
