Answers:
Nope! It actually wears down your TMJ bone. It is overworking it! I was a gum addict and years later I am being punished for it! I can't chew gum anymore :o( I miss it sooooo much!

Other Answers:
No it doesn't, it only keeps u awake.
no it hurts it :( I like gum
no its acctually destroyin ur jaw!
it straightens ur jaw that's why ur jaw hurts after u chew.
It depends on how much pressure you apply when you chew and what your genetic predisposition is to Temporal Mandibular Joint Syndrome.

Some people's have 20/20 vision into their 80's, some people lose their teeth to tooth decay in their teens. We are all made up differently. ANY excessive action that overworks a joint or a muscle is detrimental. The only way to ultimately know if you're prone to TMJ is to be aware of the symptoms and get periodically checked by an Orthodontist or other qualified professional.

So in moderation, yes your jaw muscles will strengthen to a degree.

(I had to add this because my sis just said it and it was funny: ...it will strengthen your jaw muscles to a degree - "but don't expect to go cracking walnuts open for people at dinner parties"

Don't think it does! But once in 4th grade during SAT's we chewed gum . it gets your mind going.
It MAY in fact strengthen jaw bone, and definitely strengthens jaw muscle. It has been shown that bone increases in strength when subjected to stress, IE weight lifting etc. If jaw bone is regularly "worked out" with gum, it may in fact increase bone mass, and possibly ward off periodontal disease.

This is a theory, and needs to be tested
