When it comes to the cream put on cakes. What's the difference between the two? You could also answer: which came first? Who was the first to begin using the other and why?

Answers:
Frosting is like frosty the snowman, flothy and white and does not get hard. Easy to spread. Main ingredient is fat.

Icing is made mostly from sugar. It gets hard after being spread. It is not flothy.

Depending on you taste you can use either icing or frosting to decorate desserts. Icing was used first by someone looking for a way to decorate his cake. Frosting cam much much later as an alternative to so much sugar in the icing. Both are evil anyway. One has a lot of fat and the other a lot of sugar but Frosting is less dangerous because it is lighter and won't harm you if you eat moderate portions.

Other Answers:
i don't know which came first but i do know that icing is thin and just kind of pours on and then hardens up somewhat. frosting is thick and creamy and has to be spread on. frosting could be a food group on its own also!

Frosting is thicker. It's usually made with a fat like butter or shortening and has a spreadable consistency.

Icing is usually thinner, it's made with water or milk and powder sugar as the base. It's usually drizzled or poured over the desserts.

half a dozen of one, six of the other. Frosting is the term generally used in the northern part of the US. Icing is typically used in the south. There is no difference in the product.
