Answer:
It's actually dogfish - a type of shark - not salmon at all!! That's why it's got all those funny rubbery bones in it coz sharks have cartilaginous skeletons not bony ones - yummy!!
Mushy Peas
Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which have been soaked overnight and then boiled. They are a great favourite of the north of England and are a traditional accompaniment to fish and chips.
INGREDIENTS: Dried marrowfat peas - 225 g, Bicarbonate of soda - * tsp, Unsalted butter - 15 g, Salt and freshly ground black pepper.
COOKING:1. In a large basin, soak the peas overnight (or for at least 4 hours) in three times their volume of cold water, with the bicarbonate of soda.
2. Rinse the peas well and put them into a medium saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to simmer for approximately 1 - 2 hours stirring from time to time, until the peas are cooked and have fallen to a softened mush.
3. If they appear too wet, continue cooking over a low heat to drive off any excess moisture, but take care to keep stirring, to prevent them burning on the base of the pan.
4. Beat in the butter, salt and pepper to taste.
You can buy cans of mushy peas in the supermarket, even chip shop style.
Ive no idea about rock salmon, but Ive always wondered too.
rock salmon is catfish or dogfish, they renamed it cos I doubt anybody would buy it otherwise!
dogfish
It's not salmon, i think it's dogfish.
Its actually catfish, but they renamed it "rock salmon" to appeal more to modern consumers. Its not actually salmon.
It is not salmon it a fresh water dog fish or cat fish but it is a fish an you can eat it but not as nice as salmon but who in there right mind would put batter on a salmon anyway. mushy pea's go to any super market a buy an bag of frozen mushy pea's it easy that way no tin to open .

Rock salmon is another name for Dogfish.
These are a species of small sharks (honestly) and used to be popular as disection subjects when I was doing A Level biology. It's quite edible, personally I find that 'full size' sharks taste a bit like chicken.
Boil your peas to death, but you can buy better ones (and cheaper) from a supermarket. Asda's value ones (16p) are as good as any.
Take your mushy peas, form them into a solid(ish) ball between your palms, roll them in batter (sticky flour & water mix) then deep fry them until golden. You will end up with pea fritters, a favourate of south Hampshire chippies and now spreading north.
Let's hope the chocolate Mars bar doesn't spread south.
