Answers:
The history of food items which may have served as the roots of modern pizza can be traced to the Greek colonies of Magna Graecia (southern Italy). Such products arguably have their first written mention in Book VII of Virgil's Aeneid:

Toppings on bread have been around a very long time but pizza comes from Naples Italy. Pizza in America has much more sauce and toppings than the Italian kind The old Italians made it up to give to and please the Queen of Spain. Green Peppers, Cheese, and Sauce represent the Italian flag colors. That is the way my parents told me.

Invinted in Italy but its mostly bread. The good stuff was started in America. Italy. But America invented the pizza that we all love

The only one I'm sure of is "Chicago Deep-Dish style" pizza, which was created mid-century by a former Texan living in Chicago. We had a food trivia thing here at work - don't ask...

The common folklore version of pizza's creation is that it was an Italian dish made with anchovies, and that during WWII American GI's "improved" it and brought it home. However, a little research quickly disproves that - from Mary Bealls at About:

"The first known pizza shop was the Port 'Alba in Naples, which opened in 1830 and is still open today. The first pizzeria in North America was opened in 1905 by Gennaro Lombardi at 53 1/3 Spring Street in New York City. "

There is little doubt, however, that the dish Americans eat bears little resemblance to the original inspiration. Just peruse your local takeout pizzeria's menu - you'll likely find toppings ranging from anchovy to chili to barbecue chicken.

Some of the "gourmet" or "foodie" pizzas, those on luscious foccacia flatbread with a minimum of sauce and cheese, are probably closer to the "real" pizza of Naples.

What ever way you choose to toss, top, and slice your pie, bon appetit! Here is a really thorough and good article about the origin of pizza; read it and I think you will be surprised and enlightened!
