Is it best to steam or boil fresh veggies? And I don't have a steamer, what is the best way to steam the veggies?

Answers:
use a pan steaming method. Get a sauce pan, with lid, smoking hot. Add some salt, a couple pats of butter, and water, then put the lid on. The amounts will vary with the veggie used and the amount. Steam until fork tender. I use this for making green beans, broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Add a Little apple cider vinegar at the end.

Other Answers:
It is best to steam them. I place my veggies in a pot with very little water a tablespoon or so and turn on the heat and put the lid on. As soon as I see steam I turn it off the burner and let it set to finish 'cooking' then I proceed to cook the rest of my meal. I have been doing it this way for 20 years and it works for me.

Steaming is much better. Buy a steamer or double boiler.

If money is a problem you can get a steamer tray that goes in the bottom of your saucepan for a buck or two.

its best to steam them you dont loose as many vitamins when steaming. x of course steaming is better, cause the veggies save their nutrition values, buying a steamer is the best way,but you can put the veggies in a metal basket and put it as the lid of a pot which is full of boiling water and also you shold put a lid on the basket to make the steam stay in.
I hop it helps.

you are so smart. i want you to be MY doctor (just a wee bit of sarcasm).

put the veggies in a collandar and place over water to boil. voila! steamer!

hint: you must be smarter than the vegetable to figure this one out

put them in a pan with LITTLE water,,, if you boil them you are boiling out all the good nutritions. Steam them to keep al the vitamns.locked in..

steaming is loads better if u want to keep the vitamins inside ur body after u eat the food steaming

steaming makes it more crisp
just get a pot fill it with boiling water
put a rack and put a metal plate with ur veggies
thats how my dad makes them When you boil vegetables, a lot of their vitamin content goes into the water, so that you are pouring a lot of their value down the drain. That's why steaming is better.

You can buy a collapsible 3-legged steamer insert for your pots for about $1.99. Or you can cut both ends out of some tuna cans and use them to hold a plate of vegetables above the level of the boiling water. You don't need a special steamer.

If you want to get a steamer, get one from an oriental market, with stacking steamer pans. You can get the bamboo kind if you want to be able to serve from it at the table, or the aluminum kind if not. Both will have a feature that allows steam condensing on the lid of the pan to not drip down on the food again--this is a special virtue of bamboo.
While you're at this market, get a 3-legged claw thing used to lift a hot plate of food out of the steamer, for the times when the plate is almost as big as the diameter of the steamer.

And Chinese steamers also make excellent containers to transport pies to holiday gatherings, if you do that sort of thing.
