Here are some friends with simlar question as we.And I have this question for many days, anyone help us?
Kitty said: Yes.what is the difference between shrimps and prawns?-I try seach this on internet but no results found.Maybe this is a stupid question.
Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(what is the difference between shrimps and prawns?),it will help you,my kids.
Answers:
Semantics to me. Shrimps are usually smaller, and are prepped so no head and shell. Prawns are usually larger, like 26-30+ and has the shell or the tail and butterflied. I think prawns should only be used to describe a full-shrimp, like with head-on and everything. Restaurants use the word prawn as a fancy way to say shrimp, like when that's the focus of the dish, vs. shrimp is used when it's tossed into the dish as an ingredient or used as a topping.
Other Answers:
SHRIMP: SMALL, LONG-TAILED CRUSTACEAN (UP TO 9" LONG).
PRAWN: ANY OF VARIOUS RELATED EDIBLE SHRIMPLINE CRUSTACEANS OR LARGER SHRIMP (1" TO 2'). SO, PRAWN ARE LARGER.

DICTIONARY
no difference at all.. prawns are merely bigger than the shrimps.
Essentially nothing. Some say prawns are bigger, but that could just be semantics. As for a recipe, use the best you have of either (whatever your grocer calls them.) You'd do that anyway, right?
