Keep your mouth closed when you are cutting them or cut them underwater.
wear sunglasses
hold a pice of bread in you mouth
but my favourite way is to get my partner to cut it up for me lol
Wear goggles that you swim with. You can also chew on a piece of bread too.
you can put a piece of bread in the roof of your mouth.
soak the onion in ice water 5 min-10 min before you cut it.
After taking out first layer dip the onion into water, after 2-3 minutes start flaying, no tears will be there.

If you peel onions under running cold water, they don't make you cry, also if you put them in the freezer for a couple of hours before cutting them up they won't cause tears.
light a candle and then try cutting them sittin near the candle......but ukno the tears are real good for u'r eyes cos they clear u'r vision..
Don't let the chemicals mix with your eye juices- it makes acid
1. Put the unpeeled onion in the freezer.
2. Leave the onion in the freezer for about ten minutes.
3. Remove the onion from the freezer and peel it. The onion can now be sliced, chopped, or minced without tears.

Tips

* Simply keep your onions in the fridge along with other veggies and you will never cry when chopping them - it's that simple!
* You can freeze an onion, just prepare like you were going to use it. Pan fry it before cooling and putting into an airtight container and freeze. This stops the onion going mushy when defrosted. Use as you would any other onion.
* If you use a sharp knife, there shouldn't be any tears. An onion makes you cry because acid is being released from the onion. Using a dull knife crushes the onion rather than cutting it, releasing far more of this acid into the air.
* Rinsing the onion will prevent it from browning.
* Try holding a wooden spoon or a piece of bread between your teeth while cutting. This significantly reduces the irritation to the eyes.
* Keep your mouth open and breathe through it while cutting onions to reduce the amount of tears.
* Burn a candle on the counter near where you're cutting the onion. It'll burn off the fumes that cause eye irritation. A scented candle also smells better than raw, chopped onion!
* You can also avoid tears simply by chewing a piece of gum while you are cutting the onion.
* Try holding a wooden match in your teeth (unlit of course); it will absorb the odor.
* Visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onion#Why_do_onions_make_you_cry.3F for other great suggestions and a good article that describes why the onion makes people resemble Niagra Falls!
* Safety goggles or big sunglasses may be worn to prevent more acid gas from the onion from reaching your eyes and irritating them.

Warnings

* Onions that have been frozen raw may tend to be slightly mushy after thawing.
Mind over matter. Control your reactions. It has no power over a strong will power. Maybe cut so many onions until you are immune?
I use these techniques:
1. Cut the onions underwater.
2. Wear goggles
3. Use an exhaust fan
4. If used for gravy, cook the onins and then cut or grind them
Chew gum - it WORKS!!!
Oh yea... I keep a pair of "snow goggles" in the kithchen just for this exact reason..."Ski All Day...Dice All Night"....

cut the onions in halves and soak them underwater for 5-10 mins before chopping them.
try chewing bubble gum. it works for me.

(my dad's a chef)
I keep them in the refirgerator until I need them, so when they are very cold the juice from the onion won't make you cry. And I normally keep one or two onions already peeled frozen I cut slices as needed. The cold prevents the juice of the onion from crying.
I used to work in a fast food restaurant and had to peel and cut about 50 kilos of onions every two days for making onion rings so I guaranty this trick does work.
soak onion in water for half an hour
and then cut it?
keep a match stick in ur mouth
or cut it under cold water
or have a chewing gum in ur mouth
Store onions in the fridge, or put them in an hour before chopping (it works up to a half hour before chopping). I heard Rahael Ray say it in one of her shows, and I have tried it many times, and it works.
