I haven't eaten fish since an early age and now have a bit of a completely irrational phobia which I am determined to overcome. They say that bacon has converted many a vegetarian - is there a fishy equivalent do you think?

I can relate to you on this one. My husband is a fish freak so I've had to accustom myself to it. The best thing for you to try would be a shark steak. The meat is not at all "fishy" and as the name implies is meaty like a steak. Marinading it in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chopped garlic and salt & pepper makes for a fine meal.
To progress onto more of a fish, try Tilapia. It's very mild and goes really well with dill and olive oil (or if you prefer butter).
Perch and Pollock are pretty good starters ,too.
I've tried everything to eat White Fish so I don't recommend it.
Catfish still tastes like dirt, literally.

Haddock, cod, salmon, tuna - all lovely fish to eat

Sashimi

I think so try salmon or tuna tuna goes well in sandwiches as well

try some haddock its much nicer than cod but for a come back kid id go for tuna steak in brine

try a rainbow trout , absolutely delic !!

Smoked fish has a wonderful taste when added to less tasty white fish in a meal, like fish pie.

try white fish first, usually quite bland and slowly build yourself up...........

Monkfish or swordfish are both very meaty yet mild - perfect for re-introducing yourself to the delights of the sea.

Stay away from oily fish in cans to start off with.

Wild Alaskan King Salmon!
Grilled Tilapia with vegetables& sauce
Mahi Mahi

When I was a kid I hated fish, but now I love it.:-)

Mahi Mahi is a very mild fish, try that.

I would say in order to find fish that you like, try starting out with very mild fish. Cod would be the mildest fish I can think of. Prepare it your favorite way.... if you like fried foods.. make fried fish, baked foods, try baking it.. etc....
I would stay away from tinned or canned fish, as it has a strong smell, and that be be somewhat of a turnoff.
Selecting the right herbs and spice, and accompanying vegetables helps when baking always helps. Fish tend to pick up the flavors that is being cooked with it, so if you like garlic. be sure to include some fresh garlic over it, what ever spices you like,.
One of my fave's is prepared with sliced boiled potatoes with a filet of fish and baked with coconut milk, onion, garlic, thyme, salt and black pepper. It has a potato soup consistencyand is very flavorful.

Fish oil pills............ perfect for you!!

fisha rea slimy!

If you're about to eat fish, add some lemon juice to remove the smell.. You will love the taste, that's for sure.

fish is good?

I think cod is the best starting place. It doesn't taste too fishy and doesn't spell fishy either. As a vegetarian (or piscatarian) this is how I started to eat fish, I was in the same boat as you.
