Once they've been hard boiled and cooled, do they need to go in the fridge? If they do, then how long can they stay out of the fridge?

All eggs need to be kept in the refrigerator, even after they have been cooked. You can keep a hard boiled egg in the fridge for up to one week.
They can only be left unrefrigerated for 2 hours tops or else risk a food borne illness.
nahh they don't have to go in the fridge. whenever we used to go out for a picnic they would just be stored in a normal container and they could be in there for anything up to 5 hours and they would be fine.
if you're keeping them overnight though i'd put them in the fridge
they can be kept for a couple of days (i think)
if it goes mouldy though it's not really hard to boil another one :P
before all this scare/awareness of food safety, many places sold hard boiled eggs on the counter. Although I've never eaten those eggs, I'd imagine you'd be okay for a few hours at least.
If these eggs are for an easter egg hunt, then you should be fine since most people don't eat those anyway. Keep a few on the side, in the fridge or counter, if you do plan to eat some people want to eat eggs.
cases of samonela have been found if chicken meat is left out, and we're warned to cook eggs good before eating them. I would then assume that it's better to be safe than sorry. We used to take a cooked egg in our bag lunch to school (perhaps an hour trip) but then refrigerated the lunch once we got to school, and eggs are left out for a while like at a brunch. I wouldn't push that time though. Be safe.
