I am cooking beans for my nephew's graduation but would like to make them beforehand. I was wondering if they could be frozen and if so do they still taste fresh after they have been thawed?

Answers:
yes. We always make an extra large pot of beans, then freeze them in separate containers. you can either thaw them in the micro, or fry them..

Other Answers:
Yes, they should be just fine. Make sure the container is sealed well, and they should taste as good as fresh.

A lifetime of eating my own leftovers.

Yes, and they might even have more flaver. They will still make you have lots of foo foo's later. LOL Yes!!! But unless you're keeping them frozen at 0 degrees, you'd best not make them too far in advance. Good luck.

I freeze all of my pinto beans after cooking them a big using the following recipe:
Pinto Bean Mix
6 cups dried pinto beans (~3 pounds)
soaking water
10 cups water
3 large onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced or 1 tsp. garlic powder
2 Tblsp butter, optional
2 Tblsp salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
Wash and sort beans. in a large pot or Dutch oven, combine beans and enough water to cover. Bring to a boil. boil 2 minutes. remove from heat, cover and let stand one hour.

Drain and discard soaking water from beans. rinse beans and return to cooking pot. add 10 cups water, onions, garlic, butter, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. reduce heat and simmer about 2 hr. or until beans are tender. cool. makes about 14 cups.
To Freeze; use within 6 months. Package 2-3 cups in each freezer bag. If you have a foodsaver, I recommend you use that.
