Mike said: oh,no,you are wrong.I have found as below for this question(Has anyone tried Atkins?),it will help you,my kids.
I am thinking about doing it, was wondering who has done it, were you strict on it? How did it work for you? Were you drinking alcohol at all while on the diet?
Answers:
Atkins is very dangerous.
This is because you place your body into ketosis. (kE-tow-sis phonetically).
Ketosis is when you deprive your body of sugar to burn. As such, the body begins to burn fat and/or muscle. This creates higher then normal levels of ketones in the blood stream.
This mimics the effect of having diabetes. Which can in cause issues such as liver damage, heart attack and blindness.
The reason people are hooked on Atkins is because they see a HUGE weight loss in the first week of use.
This is due to the body using the sugars stored in the muscles. These aren't normal sugars however, so when they are used, the body ditches alot of water.
So, with all that water gone, people say "Wow, I lost 12 pounds this week". As you now know, this simply isn't the case. Loss of water isn't loss of body mass (ie, Fat).
Atkins is nothing compared to exercise. Go out for a walk or ride a bike. Keeping active keeps your metabolism going which allows you to burn more calroies in a day (and thus eat more without putting on weight).
Also, you can work out, build your muscle. Muscle requires calories to maintain, so this will also increase the number of calories you can safely eat.
All in all, fad diets are just that, fads. People claim they work, but more often then not, it's people who don't understand what is happening to their body.
Thanks for the question.

I belive the Atkins diet is now discredited!
no, and you probably don't even need to lose weight, quit being insecure! I tried Atkins years ago when it first came out. Did you know that Dr. Atkins died of a hear attack from his own dietary following? I don't drink either & didn't when I was on it. I lost 65 lbs & then put on 80 when I quit the diet. I felt like I was starving, which means the diet wasn't working properly. ANY diet that you feel hungry on isn't good. I did Weight Watchers for 2 years & lost 100 lbs. The weight came back due to my lack of willingness to stick with the plan. I'm back on it now & I don't feel hungry. If I do, I grab a snack that I know will fill me up.
I tried Atkins and had some success. You do have to follow the plan closely. There is a regular and a low fat version to the diet. I would say talk to your doctor before you start, although many docs are misinformed. As are many many others. I did not finish the complete plan so that may be why it did not work completely. Read the book and you may find success by just cutting out refined sugars and flour. Always maintain your intake of veggies.
Ketosis vs. Ketoacidosis
Dietary ketosis is among the most maligned and misunderstood concepts in nutrition because it is often confused with ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening condition most often associated with uncontrolled insulin-deficient Type 1 diabetes. In the Type 1 diabetic, the absence of insulin leads to a toxic build-up of blood glucose and an extreme break-down of fat and muscle tissue. This condition doesn't occur in individuals who have even a small amount of insulin, whether from natural production or artificially administered.

I did it 4 years ago, and it helped me lose weight. I dropped 40 lbs, gained back 20. I have subsequently lost it using a high protein diet and intense exercise.
I was very strict as instructed, except for alcohol. You can have alcohol without carbs. My favorite was bourbon and diet.
The good part of the diet is you usually have very quick results. You will plateau, meaning you will be stuck at a weight for a while, and then will lose again. It also is a good diet because I got to eat a lot of foods I like that were good for the diet, bacon and eggs, steak, chicken wings.
Bad parts of the diet is mainly it is very restrictive. I don't think it is a great long term solution. I just can't see eating Adkins all the time, it drove me nuts. You may have some initial constipation, but usually your body adjusts. Add plenty of water and some fiber if necessary. Remember plain fiber has no carbs that count. Another problem is once you stop the weight will come back quickly.
Whatever you do, you really should add some exercise. You should have both cardiovascular and strength training. Look to a gym or other books to help. Good luck, losing weight is difficult.
yeah, i have. But the Atkins diet isn't for everyone.. there is something better now called the low GI diet. Instead of focusing on the amount of carbohydrate you take, it focuses on the quality. Go for that one, it's healthier, and results are as fast at Atkins I tried it several years ago when it first became very popular. I followed the diet religiously and gained 8 pounds! I don't know about drinking. I think alcohol has a lot of carbs in it, so my *guess* would be little or no alcohol.
