Keep a 12-inch cast iron camp oven handy. A camp oven is a dutch oven with legs and a flat lid with a rim you put hot coals on. You prepare your cake batter as usual while pre-heating that camp oven. Put 10 lighted charcoal briquets under it and 20 on the lid. When your batter is ready, pour it into a nine or ten inch cake pan and set that inside the heated camp oven. Be sure to put a trivet on the bottom of the camp oven first so the bottom of your cake won't burn as readily. Go by the time suggested on the box of cake mix (or by the recipe if you're making it from scratch). After it's baked 12 minutes, pick up the camp oven by the bail (use a hot pad or oven glove so y'won't burn yourself) and rotate it half a turn. Then carefully lift the lid just enough to allow you to rotate it half a turn in the other direction. Check carefully to see if it's done when the suggested time has elapsed. It should be done quite nicely.
HINT: this can take some practice, so I suggest trying it BEFORE you lose power - it's hard to get it right the first time when first time is compelled by things like power outages. And y'know what? They turn our just as nicely as in your modern kitchen oven. So do pies, cobblers, breads, buscuits 'n just about anything else y'can think to cook. But yeah - it takes a bit of practice. Easiest and cheapest way to practice is to make biscuits out of Bisquick. So if y'burn the blamed things the first time or two, so what? You haven't wasted your time, and y'gots cheap food for the birds! Anyhow - if you try it before you REALLY need to bake your cake on the barbie - it should be no big deal. Have fun, and good eating!

That sounds interesting, but I doubt if it would work.
i've never done a cake but i have done blueberry muffins, well more like a blueberry cake i guess cause i just put them in a small round cake pan, once when we were camping on a small portable gas grill. they were pretty good. just have to watch the temp and make sure you keep them from being to close to the source of heat. I did... but the frosting caught on fire. Who knew sugar could be so flammable?
never done a cake but i have cooked many things in a BBQ
you have to watch the temp on those things and thier pretty much like a oven
Sure have! Too bad lights came back on and had to finish it in the oven..
The cake turned out awesome though! What memories that brings back! Yes you can grill a cake. Helps to have a large grill that you can have coals pushed to the outside. You will need to make a ring of coals and some need to be underneath, line with heavy duty aluminum foil, shinny side in or large pot, larger than the cake pan. Cover the cake pan lightly with aluminum foil (to protect from ash) if you like and place on three small stones. Cover grill, Let in just enough air to keep your fire going for as long as your recipe and pan requires. You might have to add coals to the fire if you have a deep cake pan. Don't forget to smear your outside pot with dish washing soap if you use that method. If all fails, cake dough is also pancake consistency and you can make pancakes and stack them to make a cake. Have fun!
