I have found 2 new recipes I want to try (Chicken Pot Pie and Peach Pie) and both instruct you to cover edges loosely with foil. It doesn't say anything about covering the whole pie. Does that mean cover the whole pie and loosely seal around edges? Or does it mean just the edges? Thank you in advance!

Answers:
Yeah, that's confusing. Take strips about 2-3 in. wide and kinda pinch them a little around the edge of the pie. It keeps the edges from burning before the rest of the pie is cooked. If you're really into it, there's a couple of companies that make a set that you can use where you put the pie on a round elevated tin and there's a cover with the middle cut out that you put on top. It's much easier and usually they're non-stick, so cleanup is better.

Other Answers:
foil will help the edges from getting to crispy before the rest of it does

I'm pretty sure it means cover the whole thing, but don't tuck the edges down. You want the foil sitting lightly on top of the pie, tucked a little bit, but loose enough to let air in & out. self explanitory

It means to cover the edges only. You don't want to cover the whole pie because then it will not brown, and also it won't vent properly. Covering the edges with foil prevents them from burning and therefore tasting and looking gross. They are more apt to burn because there is no liquid on the edges--it's just all crust.

Hope this helps.

Just around the edges of the pie crust so it doesn't brown as much...it works like this Pie Crust Shield Solid Ring would...

cover whole pie and dont cover around edges tightly this will allow steam to escape.
