Hamburger is sold by the amount of Fat content and from particular cuts of beef they grind up into burger.
Look for percentages of fat stated by: "85% lean", "90%" beef. Leaner beef will be higher priced and more healthy to eat. "Fattier" beef 85% and less will be juicer after it's cooked, but will produce more excess fat runoff and more calories in your cooked food.
I have no idea, but maybe because it was from a differant part of the cow or whatever, or something. Or maybe the company just thinks that their burger meat is better than the rest. idk.
The less fat is in the product the more the product cost.
Could be the difference between sirloin and chuck? IDK. I've noticed that stored do have a variety of prices. Just buy what tastes best to you!
wl
it depends on the fat content, the more fat the cheaper it is.
it depends on what cut of meat they grind up to make the hamburger...ground sirloin, for example, will be a lot more expensive than some cheaper cuts...and it depends on how much fat they mix in as they grind it...
it is all ground beef...so choose according to your budget and your taste...
Hamburg is a city in Germany and isn't sold at my local grocery store.
Hamburger or "ground beef" is the meat of a cow used for cooking purposes.
Not only is some ground beef more expensive due to fat content (With lower fat content costing more), but with rising demand for better consumer products, some ground beef is even from slightly different areas on the guernsey.
There are two notable examples of above. Firstly, ground Angus, which while heaving a moderate fat content is more expensive than Traditional ground round (The stuff you're used to) due to an extra savory flavor to that cut. You'll notice a lot of fast food chains are starting to offer premium burgers using angus beef.
Usually the MOST expensive cut of ground beef is Ground Sirloin which isn't very good beef when used to make steaks, but when ground gives a very lean product that is highly sought for use in cheeseburgers. Ground sirloin is usually under 10% fat content whereas most folks buy something that's closer to 20% fat content for day-to-day usage.
Take a closer look at the packages. If they're all fresh, the lower the fat content, the redder the beef. If it's looking slightly grey/white, that's either high in fat of it's been sitting longer. Or both!
