Answers:
If refridgerated, butter lasts for 8 months.

Other Answers:
after it gets opened maybe a couple of weeks.
i keep mine until it's used up. i don't think it really ever goes bad if refridgerated. and margarine in a tub can be kept at room temperature if the house is not excessively warm.
until the experation date
about 6 months
Butter:
In the Fridge: 3 months
Have more butter than you can use? Store extra sticks in the freezer for up to a year.

I have cooked since I'm a child (I'm 45 now) and come from european-american mother's family which is a big spoon (italians more of them). In my experience, good quality milk products like some aged cheeses and butter, can last years in a good fridge. It is a matter of proper wrapping and a good, organized and clean fridge. I can tell you I have kept blue stilton or french vintage butter by years (more than six!). Not a big deal to understand this basic chemical matters on kitchen: whatever contents great quantities of accidity, or fat or sugars, is ok to preserve a looong time. A lot of people are concerned about food's life and those "consume before (date)"... it is not neccesarily true... almost all of that is false! (Ooo, marketing!) You can learn of this with cooking friends and your experience. Believe me! And, I'm not a great meat consumer, but... did you know that a lot of red meat consumed in restaurants like "choice" in the world have been freeze by years??? (Australian or canadian moutons, saying the least).

I recommend to read books in cooking techniques (not recipe books, they are crap) and to try: experience and olfative and... some sense.
