Answers:
You must use peanut oil to properly deep fry a turkey for several reasons:
1) To produce a turkey that is moist, but not greasy, the temperature has to reach and be maintained at a certain temperature. Essentially, the high heat of the oil makes the skin "crisp" into a mini-container that allows one to cooks such a dense piece of meat in a short period of time without burning.
2)Most importantly, only peanut oil can reach and maintain such a high temperature without igniting.

In any other oil your bird will be a greasy mess and/or the entire contraption will ignite.

Other Answers:
Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the best for cooking. It is healthy for you. I don't know about the price, though.

you will need no matter what oil you choose

high-smoke point oil

I have searched @ http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/site_map
for fried turkey recipies, all use peanut oil...Having never fried a turkey personally I would have to say that all these experts have chosen peanut oil for a reason. so stick with what works. unless your guest has an alergy to peanuts...then try to email foodnetwork tv for a substitute if possible.
