Answers:
Salad comes from the Latin word “herba salta” or “salted herbs,” so called because such greens were usually seasoned with dressings containing lots of salt.

I know the ceaser salad was created by a california chef who had run out of ingredients to prepare for the dinner crowd. So he tossed all the stuff together and created the ceaser salad. It's the only American dish and chef that's been recognized internationally for contributing something unique to the culinary world. Let me see if I can dig up proof/info of this..............

Here you go:

"Caesar Salad (SEE-zer) - The salad consists of greens (classically romaine lettuce) with a garlic vinaigrette dressing. In the 1930s, Caesar Salad was voted by the master chefs of the International Society of Epicures in Paris as the "greatest recipe to originate from the Americas in fifty years."

That's all I can find. Have fun!
See if you can find the book: "Food in History" by Reay Tannahill - it goes waaaayyy back. On second thought, since the paper is due tomorrow... you're screwed. nevermind.
