I am trying to find out what the top schools and most prestigious ones are. I've done a search online, but would like some more help from those who are already in this field, or in the same situation as I am. I live in California and would like to find the top schools there, as well as around the U.S., and the rest of the world. Thanks!

Answers:
The Culinary Institute of America is the most prestigious, but I know people who graduated from there who can't boil water without burning it. I think every experience is more what YOU do with it than anything. If you are looking for a degree in both Culinary and Pastry then I would research Pastry degrees. Most schools offer the degree in Culinary but not pastry - you can only get in a few pastry classes. I know there are Le Cordon Bleu schools and Art Institutes in California. They both offer good programs, but I don't know about the pastry degree.

Other Answers:
The Culinary Institute of American in Napa Valley is one the most prestigious schools in the country. There is also the CIA in New York. There is also the Institute of Culinary Education in NY, NY.

not sure on school, but would recommend gettin 4 yr degree not 2 yr i have friends that have a to year and cannot get jobs. losing them to people with 4 yr.
Mine is an b.a. hotel and restraunt mgmt. with an american culinary foundation accredation
I must say that I am bias in this question since I will always recommend the CIA. I graduated from the Baking and Pastry program and I have to say that it was one of the high points of my life. The culinary program will give you a few baking classes as the baking program will give you a couple of culinary classes. Make sure that you do as much research as possible, the CIA is the best, but it also comes with a hefty price tag. And yes cinren13 I too know people like that, but it is more a question of ability and experience than curriculum.
